Ahh, what a great night of music! I keep replaying Nothing More’s Jenny. Vocals are so good and I love the highs and lows of the song. Serious lyrics about substance abuse and the pain it causes in relationships.
I chose “Realize My Fate” by the indie rock band, Cloud Nothings.
I love how the song builds so steadily and ominously…with the lyrics “I believe in something bigger but what, I can’t articulate. I find it hard to realize my fate.’ Man, can I relate.
I also shared “Twenty” by the influential Stoner Rock/ Instrumental band Karma To Burn.
I was introduced to Karma To Burn because of my appreciation for the Hard Rock trio Year Long Disaster…Rich Mullins played bass for both bands.
“Twenty” is a raucous tune.
When I think HEAVY, Babes in Toyland always pops into my mind. They freaking rock and “He’s My Thing” is such an in-your-face response to songs like… Oh… “Cherry Pie” by Warrant. Kat Bjelland’s throaty growl is perfect. I was lucky enough to catch them live in West Hollywood at the Tower Records parking lot some time in the mid-90s. This is exactly why Grunge put a 5 year hold on Glam.
My other song was Rollins Band’s “Low Self Opinion” an underrated rocker that only recently came to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. I recall Rollin’s talking about how the song is about himself and that he is basically yelling it to his own face. Get some introspection! Also saw Rollins on the first ever Lollapalooza in San Diego. I worked as a parking lot attendant but we got to go in and watch the show. 1991 San Diego.
The energy and vibe of this session was awesome. Pantera set the stage for so many bands. A New Level was fitting for the heavy session and where TLC has taken me musically. ✌🏼
