   Pearl Jam is the most significant band in my life and Eddie Vedder is the most significant individual artist. They broke onto the scene in the early 90s as I was going through high school and their songs helped me move through whatever adolescent angst/rage I was feeling, and did so in a manner that made me always see the light in the darkness. Almost 30 years later, the band is still at it, and some I, and what I respect most about the band is their integrity, authenticity, and insistence on maintaining a pained optimism about the beauty of life. I chose the song “Inside Job” off of their self title 2006 album because it’s lyrics are as helpful as those in any religious text or self help book.
   “How I choose to feel is how I am. I will not lose faith. It’s an inside job today.”

   I think it is safe to say that we’ve been travelling over some rocky ground through this pandemic. As the youngest of 4 boys from an Italian Catholic family in New Jersey, Bruce Springsteen has always been a major presence in my life. He is a rock and roll preacher in the greatest sense…he uses music to instill hope and faith in people to work through challenging times. “Rocky Ground” is off of his 2012 album, Wrecking Ball. The chorus with the gospel choir is uplifting enough.
   ‘We’ve been traveling over rocky ground, rocky ground, there’s a new day coming.”
