Welcome

We’re building the world’s greatest mixtape.

The Listening Club began in May 2020 as a way for a few friends to use music and technology to stay connected during the pandemic.

The friends set up a video call to share, discuss, and listen to a couple of songs that mattered to each of them. The night was full of meaningful conversation, laughter, music knowledge, and great tunes!

The Listening Club was born. And it was good.

Today, the anchor experience of The Listening Club is the same as it was on that first night- small groups of music fans meeting on a video call for a TLC Session to share, discuss, and listen to their favorite and most meaningful songs TOGETHER.

In addition to TLC Sessions, The Listening Club offers its members several ways to connect more deeply to the music they love and to other people who share the same deep passion for music. We encourage you to participate in the conversations and to enjoy the TLC Stories submitted by The Listening Club members.

As you spend time on the site, you will notice that- for the time being- much of The Listening Club experience is a ‘Bring Your Own’ type of affair.

The Listening Club provides the forum for music inspired connection, but its members ‘bring’ almost everything else; they bring their own video call platform, their own streaming music subscription, their own music player, and their own speakers/headphones.

Most importantly, TLC members bring their own songs and their own stories.

If you appreciate listening to music and you enjoy talking with others about the music that matters to you, welcome to the club!

A TLC Session is a virtual meeting of small groups of music fans in which participants share, listen to, and discuss their favorite and most meaningful songs TOGETHER.

While all TLC Sessions follow a similar format, the unique appeal of each session varies depending on the makeup of the group, current world events, and what is happening in each participant’s life.

In some sessions, friends share songs to initiate conversations about deeply personal topics or to reconnect after not having seen each other for years. In others, relative strangers form new friendships rooted in a shared appreciation for music and music focused conversations.

Some TLC Sessions have an ‘open’ theme and participants share whatever songs are resonating with them at the moment; other sessions have specific themes like ‘Protest Songs’, ‘The Theme Song For My Life’, or ‘Greatest Guitar Solos Ever’.

Sometimes participants talk about the songs or the bands, sometimes they talk about their lives or “Life”, many times they laugh, occasionally they shed tears, and always, they rock out.

After each TLC Session, the session host submits a playlist to the TLC website along with whatever information they want to share about the session. The session recap and the playlist links are published on the TLC site so members can listen to the songs and add their own comments to the exchange.

One of the main goals of The Listening Club is to provide a forum for TLC members to share anecdotes- a TLC Story- about their connections to their favorite and most meaningful songs.

Did a certain song or lyric get you through a particularly difficult time in your life?
Do you have a special concert memory that you think other TLC members would appreciate hearing?
Do you remember the first time you heard a song by your favorite band?

If so, The Listening Club would love to hear about it.
